User Guide — Charge Capture for Hospital Medications
athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems
In some cases, athenaOne for Hospitals & Health Systems provides automated charge capture for hospital medications, with some requirements.
Manual charge capture only.
If the nurse can select/scan the product being administered in the MAR and if the charge code is configured for the product, the athenaOne system attempts to submit the charge automatically.
For IV medication with the Dilution option selected, the Pharmacy Medication Preparation task is required in order for athenaOne to submit the charge automatically.
For the following IV medication types, the medication preparation task is not required and nurses can select/scan the actual product being administered. If the charge code is configured, the athenaOne system attempts to submit the charge automatically:
- IV medication order administered via Push option (injectables, syringes, reconstituted).
- IV medication order administered using the No Dilution option (mainly premix).
- IV Fluid order (NS, lactated ringers, etc.)
IV medication charge capture requires the completion of the Pharmacy Medication Preparation task.
If the hospital does not complete the Pharmacy Medication Preparation task, all IV medication charges must be submitted manually.
Compounded medication charge capture requires the completion of the Pharmacy Medication Preparation task.
If the hospital does not complete the Pharmacy Medication Preparation task, all IV medication charges must be submitted manually.
